How did your time as a student at RMU aid in your professional development for your career? How has RMU positively impacted you?
My time as a student at RMU was instrumental in shaping my professional development and career. The rigorous academic curriculum provided me with a strong foundation in project management principles and practices, which I apply daily in my role at Matthews Marking Systems. The hands-on learning experiences, such as internships and group projects, allowed me to develop practical skills and gain real-world insights that have been invaluable in my career. Additionally, RMU’s emphasis on leadership and teamwork helped me build essential soft skills, such as communication, collaboration, and problem-solving. These skills have enabled me to effectively manage projects and lead teams in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment. RMU also fostered a supportive and engaging community, where I formed lasting relationships with peers and mentors. These connections have provided me with a network of professionals who continue to offer guidance and support throughout my career. Overall, RMU has positively impacted me by equipping me with the knowledge, skills, and connections necessary to succeed in my professional journey.
Describe a typical day in your role. What are your day-to-day tasks and responsibilities?
A typical day as an Associate Project Manager at Matthews Marking Systems involves managing multiple projects and coordinating with various departments, including marketing, customer service, engineering, the repair department, Product Management, the Project Management Office (PMO), and Supply Chain Managers. I start my day with team meetings to discuss updates and set priorities. Throughout the day, I oversee project timelines, track progress, and ensure deadlines are met. One of the key projects I work on is developing training guides and training programs for our products. I also lead or facilitate meetings to ensure effective communication and collaboration among team members.
Additionally, I work on project documentation and collaborate with my team to brainstorm innovative solutions. My role requires effective communication, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills. It’s rewarding to see the impact of our work and contribute to the success of the company.
What skills do you find most valuable in your career today?
In my career as an Associate Project Manager, several skills have proven to be invaluable. Firstly, effective communication is crucial. Whether it’s coordinating with different departments, leading meetings, or providing updates to stakeholders, clear and concise communication ensures everyone is on the same page and projects run smoothly.
Strategic planning is another essential skill. Being able to develop comprehensive project plans, set realistic timelines, and anticipate potential challenges helps in managing projects efficiently and meeting deadlines. Problem-solving is also key. Projects often encounter unexpected issues, and having the ability to think critically and come up with innovative solutions is vital for keeping things on track. Collaboration is important as well. Working with diverse teams, including marketing, customer service, engineering, the repair department, Product Management, the PMO, and Supply Chain Managers, requires a collaborative approach to achieve common goals. Lastly, adaptability is a valuable skill. The ability to adjust to new information, changing circumstances, and evolving project requirements ensures that I can handle
any situation that arises and continue to deliver high-quality results.
These skills, combined with my continuous learning and professional development, have been instrumental in my success and growth in my career.

What are your long-term career goals and how do you see yourself achieving these goals?
My long-term career goals include advancing into a senior project management role where I can lead larger, more complex projects and drive strategic initiatives within the company. I also aspire to continue developing my leadership skills and eventually take on a director-level position, overseeing multiple project teams and contributing to the
overall growth and success of the organization.
To achieve these goals, I plan to continue building my expertise in project management by pursuing advanced certifications and staying updated with industry best practices. I will seek out challenging projects that allow me to expand my skill set and demonstrate my capabilities. Additionally, I will focus on developing strong relationships with colleagues and mentors who can provide guidance and support along the way.
Continuous learning and professional development are key to my career progression. I will take advantage of training opportunities, attend industry conferences, and participate in relevant workshops to stay ahead in my field.
